Backpacks

More important than anything else you carry on your journey is your backpack. It is what will hold your gear and house your survival when it comes down to it. Your pack will be on your back throughout the journey, so it should be a comfortable fit that will not let you down. Choosing the right pack will mean the difference in a good vacation and a disaster.

Fitting

Your pack has to fit your body. If the pack is too big, it will cause you strain and discomfort. The same goes for if it’s too small. Know the length of your torso, measure it and don’t just guess. With this information, you can go to the store and find the right size pack. Then, it’s just a matter of finding which one feels best to you. Try them out and see. Make sure the pack distributes the weight evenly and doesn’t put an unnatural strain on your back.

Durability

When choosing your pack, remember the conditions that you will be putting it through. Your choice should be durable, able to withstand the elements and the rough treatment it will surely take. You do not want to be buying a new pack every few hikes because they do not last. Your treatment of the pack will impact its durability. It may take a few tries, but eventually you will find a pack that works best for you in the way that you will use it.

Packing

Put your tent on the top so you can get to it easily. The same goes for all the gear you’ll need to get to your destination quickly and without trouble. You do not want to be caught in a rainstorm searching through your pack for a raincoat. And make sure to waterproof your gear. The weather will likely change and you don’t want to be stuck with soggy gear. Pack for comfort. Hard objects should not be set against your back because this will cause extreme discomfort. And make sure your pack is balanced. Where you put items in your pack will determine your center of gravity, so make sure not to unbalance yourself.
